Did someone tell the weather people that the day after Memorial Day is the day to really start blasting the heat? Miami has hit the 90's everyday and probably won't quit until October. Which makes handling heavy acrylic yarns less than desirable right now.
I encourage my students to try cottons or other thinner, lightweight yarns for their projects. The organic cottons are especially soft.
Classes at the Griffing Center in North Miami are very popular, since it is the only class in the Dade/Broward area which offers Crochet Instruction. Classes continue through August 2nd and then will break until September 13th, 2010.
If you have considered learning how to crochet try to make it to the last group of classes before the break. Then you can practice on your own and take time to explore pattern books at the library and yarn shops. Before you know it the weather will turn cool and thoughts of scarves, lightweight caps and fingerless gloves will be relevant once again
