A friend from the Griffing Center Quilting group approached me in early June 2010 and asked if the Crochet class would be interested in making Preemie Caps for Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. I thought for a brief moment and said "Of course - you bet we can do that! "
She proceeded to tell me that Jackson goes through about 40 caps every month. I told her we couldn't get that many made, but could probably get 5+ each week. During the next Crochet class I told everyone about this idea and they were all quite enthusiastic. I presented them with a couple of caps which I had already made and handed out patterns with different designs.
The first week 6 caps were donated. Week 2 yielded half a dozen caps and by week 3 there were 10 more caps. Each cap is cute as can be with a variety of sizes and colors.
I can't wait to see how many caps stack up during our break in August!

I even broke out my baby doll from my own childhood days to use as a model. The poor doll was so dusty from laying in the closet for years that after a thorough scrubbing I made her a new crochet dress and matching cap to proudly wear.
Here she is in her new dress and cap, taking a nap.
